Wicklow Community for Climate and Biodiversity Action
In March 2019, an ad-hoc group of Greystones-Delgany young people and families declared Climate and Biodiversity Emergency and called on all Local and National Authorities to join us, and stand with the community. Most did (WCC, then DLRCC, the Dáil & Government, 20 / 31 Co. Cos.). We intend to hold all Authorities to their declared commitments, including the Dáil & Government commitment (9 May 2019) to urgently convene the Citizen’s Assembly on the Biodiversity Loss Emergency (still outstanding).
The group followed with an initial Action Plan and called on all Authorities to again stand with the community on this. Most did not (yet), but most are trying (to different extents). Official plans for M11 motorway expansion that would be highly damaging to Community, Climate and Biodiversity were stopped and changed.
Many of the local community are currently focussing on setting up:
– Greystones Sustainable Energy Community
– Three Trout Stream Community Nature Reserve (from the Glens to the Sea, including a sustainable green greenway).
